Just Luv Entertainment has done it again with another evening of good music, food, comedy and fun. Just Luv's latest event, A Black & White Mid-Summer's Night, took place on a June evening along the Occoquan River in Woodbridge, Virginia. It was quite an occasion, with everyone wearing black and/or white attire. Stacey Carver's comedy performance kept everyone in stitches, and William "Smooth" Wardlaw provided the music for the evening, singing some Luther Vandross and other hits. Thanks again to Ms. Bernice (catering) and the Harbour View staff for hosting this Just Luv Productions event.

February Night to Remember

aDuring Valentine's Day weekend, I photographed the event "A February Night to Remember" in Woodbridge VA. Just Luv Productions hosted their premiere event at Harbour View, a waterfront venue along the Occoquan River. The evening included music by the E&ME Band, poetry, dinner, and a hilarious stand-up performance by comedian Stacey Carver. Benson Blake Photography created portraits throughout the night as a momento for many of the 200+ attendees. Thanks to Ms. Bernice and crew for catering the event… the sweet tea was SO good! I'd also like to thank Marcia at Just Luv Productions and the Harbour View event staff for your great support of the vendors and guests. Here are some moments from that February night…

The Toney Family

On October 4th, I created portraits of the Toney family at their beautiful home in Haymarket, VA. The family dog, Nikki, stepped in occasionally for her cameo appearance throughout the morning. Thanks to my assistant Precious of Precious Perspectives for helping out with the session! The two boys, 10 months and 3 years, were all smiles (and silly) for the camera. On last week, I held a portrait session on location with gospel artist and pastor Dr. Peggy Britt. For this session, I setup at Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Methodist Church in Portsmouth VA to create some promotional images for her.Â We started with a few in the sanctuary to give a church-like feel, then ended with some headshots to show more personality.

I've been published in the May 2008 issue of Black Enterprise Magazine! This edition features "America's Leading Doctors", representing a variety of specialties. I had the opportunity of photographing one of them, an orthopedic surgeon, at UVA earlier in the year. Dr. Laurencin's photo and article is presented on page 108. Black Enterprise Magazine is available at most Barnes & Noble and Walmart stores.

Top Doc Portrait Session

Why am I wearing scrubs? Well… On March 11th, I made a trip to Charlottesville VA to photograph one of the country's top doctors, Dr. Laurencin. The session took place at the University of Virginia Medical Center, where he works. One of the images will be published in the May 2008 "Top Doctors" issue of Black Enterprise Magazine. A few images were created in an operating room, and other areas of the hospital. Thanks to Paul for hanging in there, assisting me throughout the session. I can't post those images here, so here I am instead… :o)

Anna & Marty’s Formals

Last week I met Anna & Marty at their home and farm for a "day after the wedding" portrait session. This was a more relaxed session to capture them in an environment that was not possible on or before their October 6th wedding day. Their two horses and goats were able to join the fun too. As you can see, one of the goats was definitely not camera-shy!

The Baker Sisters

These are the kind of days I just LOVE! :o) On the first Sunday of November, I had the honor of photographing the Baker sisters. I was asked to update a family portrait of the four of them during their visit to Virginia Beach. One thing special about this session, is that it served as a surprise birthday gift for their mother. I feel so blessed to have played such a big role in this moment of their lives, and provide such an amazing gift of a portrait. Here are a few from the outdoor session.

Zephanye & Sam Wedding

Congratulations to Zephanye & Sam! Their October wedding took place in Auburn, Alabama at the Auburn University Conference Center. This was a beautiful occasion with a theme that included Fall colors. The day before, we were able to squeeze in a quick engagement session. We walked around the campus of Tuskegee University, capturing the couple in different scenes. One of my favorites was created when we stopped by a monument of Tuskegee's founder Booker T. Washington. I had a great time with this fun couple!
